The buttons feature antique gold coins minted in Nagapatnam in the mid 1700s by the Dutch for Southern India trade. Modeled on the local coinages, these coins feature a front-facing standing impression of Vishnu. The Vishnu coins – which feature granulation on the backside – are wrapped in hand-drawn 18K rose gold wires. The blackened effect lends a deep dark black tone, which will rub off over time giving it a sensibility of a patina.
The set of 4 can be worn as tuxedo buttons or kurta buttons. They can also be worn reversed. A single button can be worn on the lapel.
Each Studio Renn piece is handcrafted. As a result, carat and gold weights may vary slightly from one edition to the next.
