“The pair of earrings realized as vitreous enamel work were made in collaboration with Jaipur-based Ankit Malpani, over a period of two years. The enamel has an ombré of dark to light, and transitions from opaque to translucent – with each cell depicting a gradation using the piqué-a-jour technique. An oxidized ombré on the gold enhances it in the enamel. The diamonds are reverse set on the front and the clip. The long drop earrings are stiff, while the tip gently grazes the neck.
Pliqué-à-jour (French for “”letting in daylight””) is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so that light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. “
