(an)otherness
Exploring themes and perspectives with contemporary artist Prashant Salvi, points of view emerged, and evolved.
A series of sketches made for the Studio by Salvi, inspired our vocabulary for the collection; and textures, treatments, shapes and approaches materialized.
The Orange Peel is an exploration of reflective surfaces that began with the idea of 'celebrating gold' - having the gold outshine the diamonds. This evolved into a deeper study of reflections of different finishes of gold, creating glows, and experimenting with what is being reflected.
The Bleeding Tooth is an exploration of the beauty of ugliness. The works are (dis)oriented - they have no front or back, top or bottom, inside or outside. The use of gem cabochons in multiple settings is an important exploration that will continue to feature in future works of the Studio.
The Yellow Gilled series are more than sculptural realizations with overlapping curves. These are curves that end in sharp points, overlapping shapes that merge into one. The series embody the Studio's ethos of challenging dogma and propriety, and rebelling against convention.
The Puffballs are clusters of spheres. An exploration of textures, they achieve a tactile sensibility using a combination of straight and reverse set gems or through the raw casting skin and high-polish of the gold
